ITINERARY
Day 1 Vancouver, Canada
Departure 6:00 AM
Discover the vibrancy of this British Columbia cosmopolitan. Vancouver has eclectic neighbors to explore, exquisite seafood, and the largest natural park in North America.
Day 2 At Sea
Day 3 Ketchikan, United State of America
8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Paddle a kayak on sheltered waters, take a floatplane to a remote mountain lake or try your hand at sportfishing in Ketchikan, salmon capital of the world and a paradise for fishermen and nature-lovers alike. A quiet city with rich Native American heritage, it hosts the world's largest collection of authentic totem poles at Totem Bight as well as a rustic boardwalk, quaint restaurants perched on stilts above the water, and scores of fascinating shops and spectacular views from every vantage point.
Day 4 Tracy Arm, United State of America
…
Nature is at its most dramatic in this 30-mile fjord, where the sheer scale of the wilderness is enough to render you speechless. But there's more. Boats glide along an icy corridor between sheer 1,000-foot granite cliffs that are awash with waterfalls, following a series of small icebergs scattered like a trail of breadcrumbs. They lead to the twin Sawyer Glaciers, rivers of electric-blue ice that plunge into the water. Seals lounge on the floes and mountain goats cling to impossibly high rocky ledges. There's a unique soundtrack to this untamed world, too – when the glaciers calve, they let out a thunderous crack.
Day 5 Haines (Alaska), United State of America
7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
With its colorful clapperboard and corrugated iron houses overlooked by glacial peaks, Haines looks sleepily scenic. It's also delightfully quirky. There is the Hammer Museum, with more than 2,000 tools, including some that are musical instruments and others more gruesome, such as one that can prise open a skull in an autopsy. Haines is also home to unusual art installations and the Port Chilkoot Distillery, which uses glacier melt to make its spirits. Add to all this its natural wonders: a short cycle along the deep fjord known as the Lynn Canal is Chilkoot Lake state park, where bears fish for salmon along the streams and bald eagles soar overhead.
Day 6 Icy Strait (Alaska), United State of America
9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
The native Tlingit people might run the port of Icy Strait Point on Chichagof Island, but this is a place where wildlife reigns supreme. The Spasski River Valley has one of the highest densities of coastal brown bears in the world, while the waters surrounding the island teem with humpback whales as well as sea otters and sea lions. If the abundance of wildlife doesn't take your breath away, try the six-person zipwire running down from Hoonah Mountain at speeds of up to 60mph, some 300 feet above the rainforest. And don't leave port without a look at the salmon cannery turned museum.
Day 7 Sitka (Alaska), United State of America
7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Arrive at Russia's former New World capital. This historic island chain features Sitka Historic National Park, green-tufted landscapes, and St. Michael's Cathedral, built in the 1800's. This is an unusual stop for travelers, so enjoy a rare and unforgettable experience.
Day 8 At Sea
Day 9 Victoria, Canada
2:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Discovered by Captain Cook over two centuries ago, the lovely city of Victoria has successfully nurtured its English ambiance and heritage. Wonderful legacies are preserved with bright red double-decker buses and the delicious tradition of high tea. Shops brim with tartans, china, silver and antiques. From the landmark Empress Hotel to the impressive Parliament Buildings, city streets are filled with gracious architecture. A glorious profusion of colorful flowers abounds within the hanging baskets on every lamppost and at the world-famous Butchart Gardens. Victoria is an atmospheric city which brims with old-world charm.
