ITINERARY: ANCHORAGE TO VANCOUVER

Day 1: Anchorage (Whittier), Alaska

With a population of only about 200, the small and quirky hamlet of Whittier is the gateway to beautiful Prince William Sound as well as Anchorage, which is only 60 miles away. Established as a secret military outpost during World War II, Whittier now attracts visitors for its unspoiled glaciers and wilderness. Glacier cruises along Prince William Sound make for a memorable afternoon – think sheer fjords, seaside mountains and calving tidal glaciers. A picturesque train journey to Anchorage along the Alaska Railroad is another fantastic diversion; you’ll enjoy awe-inspiring views of Turnagain Arm Fjord and Portage Valley. Chugach State Park is also nearby and excellent kayaking and hiking opportunities abound.

Shore excursions on the first and last day of a cruise are only available for guests who are combining back-to-back voyages to create a longer cruise. Those guests may organize custom tours through the Destination Services Desk on board.

Day 2: At Sea, International Waters

Day 3: Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

Hoonah means "where the north wind doesn't blow" in the language of the Tlingit Indians, who make up about 70% of the population of this village on the lee side of Chichagof Island. However, wildlife outnumbers everyone, so watch for bears, eagles and humpback whales, which migrate here in the summer.

Day 4: Haines, Alaska

Nestled along America's longest fjord - the gorgeous Lynn Canal - Haines was first settled by Tlingit Indians.  Totem poles are sprinkled about town, and fascinating artifacts from the Tlingits and the early pioneers are displayed in the Sheldon Museum. But nature is Haines' chief draw. Brown bears, moose and bald eagles are plentiful.

Day 5: Juneau, Alaska

For a state capital, Juneau maintains a surprising small-town charm, in part because it can only be reached by sea or air due to the surrounding wilderness. Collections from the indigenous people are displayed in the Alaska State Museum. Visit Mendenhall Glacier for outdoor adventure.

Day 6: At Sea, International Waters

Day 7: Sitka, Alaska

Called "Shee Atika" by the Tlingit Indians, then "New Archangel" by the Russians who ousted them, Sitka boasts a multicultural heritage. Two dozen of its attractions are on the National Register of Historic Places, including Castle Hill and Building 29, a structure built by the Russians in 1835. The Sheldon Jackson Museum exhibits one of Alaska's oldest native culture collections.

Day 8: lawock, Alaska

As a town of less than 1,000 residents, idyllic Klawock is emblematic of a true Alaska pioneer town and Oceania Cruises will be the very first cruise line to call on it. Untouched and full of wildlife, this is the Alaska seasoned travelers yearn to experience. Supported by logging, fishing and canning, Klawock is the site of the first cannery in Alaska. The town has also been a native Tlingit village for thousands of years and features one of the most extensive collections of totems in the world. Located on the west coast of Prince of Wales Island, Klawock is surrounded by the temperate rainforest typical of the Inside Passage and you’ll be treated to scenic views of lush archipelagos and soaring mountains as you sail in and out of port. It is a natural sanctuary for marine birds and home to dense population of bears due to the abundance of salmon, all of which make it one of the premier birding and wildlife sites in North America.

Day 9: At Sea, International Waters

Day 10: Vancouver, Canada

By far the largest port on our Alaska cruises, Vancouver offers every imaginable big-city attraction. Explore the Museum of Anthropology and the Vancouver Art Museum for culture. History flourishes in the Gastown district, which borders vibrant Chinatown. Or enjoy a break from the bustle in Stanley Park, one of North America's largest urban parks.
